Senior advisor and co-founder of Tesla, technology speaker JB Straubel has been instrumental in forging a more sustainable economy. As a keynote speaker, JB Straubel shares his unmatched perspective on our ability to meet our greatest challenges through entrepreneurship.
Tesla may be the world’s most innovative company, and JB Straubel was there at the beginning as its founding CTO. As Elon Musk notes, “If I hadn’t had lunch with him in 2003, Tesla wouldn’t exist.” By then, Straubel had already made a name for himself as the designer of the world’s fastest electric car. While at Volacom, he was among the inventors of a hybrid propulsion system later used by Boeing.
As CTO, Straubel was responsible for Tesla’s technical direction and engineering design. Most notably, he led Tesla’s efforts to produce pioneering motor designs and groundbreaking battery technologies.
He also managed many of the company’s most important initiatives. Tesla’s energy business provides grid storage for commercial and residential customers. Tesla’s Supercharger network of fast DC chargers and its revolutionary Gigafactory each owe their success to Straubel’s visionary leadership. All along, Straubel was responsible for Tesla’s R&D operations, including new technology evolution and supplier relationships.
Straubel stepped away from his CTO role in 2019 to found Redwood Materials, but remains a senior advisor at Tesla. As Redwood Materials’ CEO, Straubel creates circular supply chains that recycle automotive battery packs. He also expects that recycling will halve the cost of such batteries within ten years.
The MIT Technology Review named Straubel its #1 innovator under 35 in 2008. Design News made him its Engineer of the Year for 2009, and in 2015 Fortune ranked him #2 in its list of the most influential business leaders under 40. He has more than 30 patents dealing with sustainable energy, motor, and control systems.
Tesla was named "the most innovative company in the world" by Forbes. The company has disrupted electric transportation and is starting to disrupt other sectors like solar and storage. Every new car of the company is pushing the limits further, like the most recent Cybertruck which seems a car from the future. JB Straubel, co-founder and former CTO, has been critical in many of the innovations and disruptions of the company and installed a culture that fostered innovation. In this keynote speech, JB will talk about how to constantly innovate and how to create a culture in your company that, like Tesla, just keeps innovating faster and faster.
When JB Straubel first met Elon Musk in 2003, neither of them could have predicted that they would take Tesla on a hyper-growth journey to become the most valuable car company in the world in less than two decades. In this fascinating keynote speech or fireside chat with a moderator, JB will talk about the origins of Tesla and how they passed from being just a garage startup in silicon valley to disrupting electric transportation worldwide.
In this keynote, JB Straubel, co-founder and former CTO of Tesla, will talk about the future of transportation with self-driving cars, artificial intelligence and what all this means for the infrastructure of cities and our world.
JB Straubel is the genius that disrupted electric transportation with his inventions and patents on Lithium-ion batteries. In this keynote, JB will talk about the importance of those inventions and how the future of energy will look like in a world full of electric vehicles.
