Simon Sinek is an optimist. He believes in a bright future and our ability to build it together.Described as “a visionary thinker with a rare intellect,” Sinek teaches leaders and organisations how to inspire people. With a bold goal to help build a world in which the vast majority of people go home every day feeling fulfilled by their work, Sinek is leading a movement to inspire people to do the things that inspire them.A trained ethnographer, he is the author of several best-selling books: the global best-seller, Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action (2011) and Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t (2014). His latest book, The Infinite Game (2018), explores the differences between finite games (football, chess, etc), where the players are known, the rules are fixed and the endpoint is clear and compares them with what he calls the infinite ones: business, politics or even life itself. In the infinite games, the players come and go, the rules can be changed, and there is no defined endpoint. Also, there are no winners and losers in an infinite game. Simon brilliantly argues that many leaders and organizations are struggling because they are applying finite mindsets to infinite games, and teaches how the infinite mindset can be applied to build stronger, more innovative and inspiring organizations.Fascinated by the leaders and companies that make the greatest impact in their organisations and in the world – those with the capacity to inspire – he has discovered some remarkable patterns about how they think, act and communicate and the environments in which people operate at their natural best. He has devoted his life to sharing his thinking in order to help other leaders and organisations inspire action. He is best known for popularising the concept of Why, and for the talk he gave on the subject that became the second most watched talk of all time on TED.com.Sinek’s unconventional and innovative views on business and leadership have attracted international attention and have earned him invitations to meet with an array of leaders and organisations, including: 3M, Disney, Pfizer, NBC/Universal, jetBlue, the military, multiple government agencies and entrepreneurs. Sinek has also presented his ideas at the United Nations, the United States Congress and to the senior leadership of the United States Air Force at the Pentagon.

Picture your life without the ability to walk, care for your basic needs, or even embrace those you love. Meet Nicholas Vujicic (pronounced VOO-yee-cheech). Without any medical explanation or warning, Nick was born in 1982 in Melbourne, Australia, without arms and legs. Three sonograms failed to reveal complications. And yet, the Vujicic family was destined to cope with both the challenge and blessing of raising a son who refused to allow his physical condition to limit his lifestyle. The early days were difficult. Throughout his childhood, Nick not only dealt with the typical challenges of school and adolescence, but he also struggled with depression and loneliness. Nick constantly wondered why he was different than all the other kids. He questioned the purpose of life, or if he even had a purpose. According to Nick, the victory over his struggles, as well as his strength and passion for life today, can be credited to his faith in God. His family, friends and the many people he has encountered along the journey have inspired him to carry on, as well.Since his first speaking engagement at age 19, Nick has traveled around the world, sharing his story with millions, sometimes in stadiums filled to capacity, speaking to a range of diverse groups such as students, teachers, young people, business professionals and church congregations of all sizes. Today this dynamic young evangelist has accomplished more than most people achieve in a lifetime. He’s an author, musician, actor, and his hobbies include fishing, painting and swimming. In 2007, Nick made the long journey from Australia to southern California where he is the president of the international non-profit ministry, Life Without Limbs, which was established in 2005.Nick says, “If God can use a man without arms and legs to be His hands and feet, then He will certainly use any willing heart!” Nick’s latest foray into radio will expand his platform for inviting men and women all around the world to embrace the liberating hope and message of Jesus Christ. Barcelona. A legendary defender who has lead and played for 19 years the same colors; an athlete whose values of leadership, fair play, strength, ability to excel and honesty go beyond the playing field.Born on April 13, 1978, Carles Puyol grew up in La Pobla de Segur (Lleida), a small village in Spain, until he was 17 years old. On June 22, 1995, at the age of 17, he signed his first contract with F.C. Barcelona and La Masia (F.C. Barcelona's world-class youth academy) became his home. During the following 4 years he played in the lower divisions until coach Luis van Gaal called him to the first squad to cover Reiziger's absence, and thus beginning his career in elite football at only 21 years old.Puyol began playing regularly for the first team and quickly became a reference as a right-back, but thanks to his perseverance and desire to excel he ended up consolidating as a central defender. His first reward came in the 2004/05 season, already as Captain of F.C. Barcelona, when he won his first title, La Liga. A year later, his dream of winning the Champions League came true. In the 2008/09 season, he became the only captain in history of football to lift all possible titles in the same year (La Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup).Beyond his almost 600 games with the F.C. Barcelona, 100 matches with the Spanish National Team and the numerous titles won, his football career is characterized by symbolic gestures, such as his kiss to the captain's bracelet in the historic 2-6 at the Santiago Bernabéu against arch-rival Real Madrid, or when he gave the honor of raising the trophy of the Champions League to his then teammate Eric Abidal, who had recently recovered from liver cancer. Pep Guardiola, F.C. Barcelona's coach at the time of winning the trophy, said "Carles Puyol's gesture to let Eric Abidal lift the Champions League trophy was a great one and it will make us stronger. Carles showed his humanity in making this gesture".In 2014, due to a repeated knee injury, the captain could no longer give 100% of himself and decided to retire for the good of the team. He retired having won over 20 trophies for F.C. Barcelona, as well as the Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup for Spain. Nowadays, Carles is an ambassador for both LaLiga and UEFA. Hernández became a NASA astronaut in 2004, an impressive achievement in itself as Jose was born into a migrant farm working family from Mexico. He didn’t learn English until he was 12 years old and spent much of his childhood on what he calls the “California circuit”: travelling with his family from Mexico to California’s southern San Joaquin Valley each March, then working their way northward to the Stockton area by summer, picking strawberries, cucumbers, cherries and tomatoes along the way. In late November, they would return to Mexico, spending Christmas and waiting for March to start the cycle all over again.José’s weekends were spent laboring in the fields with his family, and while the end of the school year meant summer fun for his peers, it meant working 7 days a week in the hot summer fields for José and his family. The neighborhoods he lived in were often dangerous, filled with drugs, alcohol, and gang violence. There was also the issue of growing up in a bicultural environment as a Mexican-American and the prejudices that came along with this label: too Mexican to be American, too American to be Mexican. Through all of this, Jose’s parents stayed strong and focused on their children’s education. This allowed José to dream of one day reaching the stars. Determined to fulfill his dream, José obtained his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering. After a successful career as an engineer and scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he worked on the development of an X-ray laser, José Hernández helped develop the first full-field digital mammography system for the early detection of breast cancer, and worked in the nuclear non-proliferation arena, José was selected as part of the 19th class of U.S. Astronauts in 2004. On August 28, 2009, José, assigned to the STS-128 Space Shuttle Discovery mission as the flight engineer, realized his dream of reaching the stars, blasting off into space on a 14 day mission to the International Space Station.José Hernández ‘s inspiring journey of perseverance and hard work is the true embodiment of the American Dream. After a close family friend died of pancreatic cancer, Andraka (then a ninth grader) became interested in finding a better early-detection diagnostic test. He learned that the lack of a rapid, low-cost early screening method contributed to the poor survival rate among individuals with pancreatic cancer. After thinking further about the problem, he came up with a plan and a budget to put his ideas in motion.Still a teenager, Andraka’s groundbreaking results have earned him international recognition, most notably a 2014 Jefferson Award, the nation’s most prestigious public service award, 1st place winner in the 2014 Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge, a 2014 National Geographic Explorer grant, the 2012 Intel ISEF Gordon Moore Award, the 2012 Smithsonian American Ingenuity Youth Award, Advocate Magazine’s 40 under 40 award, and he’s also the 2014 State of Maryland winner of the Stockholm Water Prize. In addition, Andraka was First Lady Michelle Obama’s personal guest at the 2013 State of the Union Address. He speaks to audiences of youths and adults all across the globe about his personal story, research, and his ideas for STEM education reform. He has been featured in several documentaries including Morgan Spurlock’s Sundance Film Festival entry, “You Don’t Know Jack,” Linda Peters’ award winning film, “Just Jack,” Ken Burns’ upcoming documentary about cancer, as well as 60 Minutes, The Colbert Report, ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, CNN, BBC, Fox, Rede Record de Televisão, and radio, newspaper, and magazine articles around the world.Andraka speaks at a wide variety of locations including universities, schools, technology organizations and corporations, hospitals and the education sector. His audiences range from youth—children and teens through to adults in the science and technology fields.Andraka is a student at Stanford University, Class of 2019. The book spent over twenty weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into more than forty languages. Gardner was also the inspiration for the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness,” released by Columbia Pictures in December 2006. Will Smith starred as Gardner and received Academy Award, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations for his performance. Gardner was an associate producer on the film.In his second New York Times bestselling book, Start Where You Are: Life Lessons in Getting from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be, published in May 2009, Gardner shared his philosophies on, and the crucial steps behind, creating a fulfilling, successful life. The book provided a much-needed blueprint for navigating tumultuous times with positivity, courage, tenacity, discipline and common sense. In the fall of 2010, Gardner was named the Ambassador of Pursuit and Happyness for AARP, which has nearly 40 million members worldwide. His mission is to share his hard-won wisdom to encourage the 50+ audience to pursue new challenges, search for fulfillment at any stage of life, or craft the legacy they want to leave behind.Born February 9, 1954 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Christopher Paul Gardner’s childhood was marked by poverty, domestic violence, alcoholism, sexual abuse and family illiteracy. Gardner published his autobiography out of a desire to shed light on these universal issues and show they do not have to define you. Gardner never knew his father, and lived with his beloved mother, Bettye Jean Triplett (nee Gardner), when not in foster homes. Gardner is indebted to Bettye Jean for his success as she provided him with strong “spiritual genetics” and taught him that in spite of where he came from, he could chart another path and attain whatever goals he set for himself.Gardner joined the Navy out of high school and after discharge moved to San Francisco where he worked as a medical research associate and for a scientific supply distributor. In 1981, as a new father to son Christopher Gardner Jr., he was determined to find a career that would be both lucrative and fulfilling. Fascinated by finance, but without connections, an MBA or even a college degree, Gardner applied for training programs at brokerages, willing to live on next to nothing while he learned a new trade. Chris Jr.’s mother left and Gardner, despite his circumstances, fought to keep his son because, as he says, “I made up my mind as a young kid that when I had children they were going to know who their father is, and that he isn’t going anywhere.”Gardner earned a spot in the Dean Witter Reynolds training program but became homeless when he could not make ends meet on his meager trainee salary. Today, Gardner is involved with homelessness initiatives assisting families to stay intact, and assisting homeless men and women who are employed but still cannot get by. It is estimated that 18% of the homeless population in the United States is employed; in some communities that estimate is as high as 30%.Gardner worked at Bear Stearns & Co from 1983-1987 where he became a top earner. In 1987 he founded the brokerage firm Gardner Rich in Chicago from his home with just $10,000. Gardner Rich LLC a FINRA registered broker-dealer specializing in servicing public pension funds and Taft-Hartley plans. In addition to expanding its core business as an institutional securities broker, Gardner Rich increased its participation in corporate underwriting and expanded its brokerage services to include trading in global markets through both ordinary and ADR form.As a single parent for 25 years, Gardner has demonstrated his concern for the well-being of children through his work with and on behalf of organizations such as the National Fatherhood Initiative, the National Education Association Foundation and the International Rescue Committee. Gardner is still very committed to Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco; where he and his son received assistance in the early 1980’s.Gardner has also been honored by the NAACP Image Awards with awards for both the book and movie versions of The Pursuit of Happyness; Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women’s (LACAAW) 2006 Humanitarian Award; The Continental Africa Chamber of Commerce’s 2006 Friends of Africa Award; The Glaucoma Foundation’s Kitty Carlisle Hart Lifetime Achievement Award; The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA); Covenant House, Common Ground and other organizations committed to combating violence against women, homelessness, and financial illiteracy – issues of the utmost importance to Gardner.Chris Gardner’s aim, through his speaking engagements and media projects, is to help others achieve their full potential. Doctors and patients in his model relate to each other on the basis of mutual trust and patients receive plenty of time from their doctors. Allopathic doctors and practitioners of alternative medicine will work side by side in Patch’s model. If you think that all sounds like a utopian impossibility, it isn’t. Patch and hiscolleagues practiced medicine at the Gesundheit Institute together in West Virginia that way for 12 years in what Patch refers to as their “pilot project.” In that time they saw 15,000 patients. From that experience onward Patch Adams has devoted his life to the study of what makes people happy.Through the success of this program at the West Virginia location, a model health care facility is being planned on 310 acres purchased in Pocahontas County, WV. The Institute will include a 40-bed hospital, a theater, arts and crafts shops, horticulture and vocational therapy. Over five years ago, Dr. Adams and staff temporarily stopped seeing patients so that they could coordinate plans for raising the $5 million needed for the Institute’s permanent and expanded home, a model health care community. Currently planned is an immediate phase of this dream, a $400,000 facility on the land in West Virginia, so that their medical practice can resume within the next two years. The Institute addresses, by action, four major issues in health care delivery: the rising cost of care, dehumanization of medicine, malpractice suits, and abuse of third-party insurance system.Additionally, Dr. Adams adds to his training as a physician his experience as a street clown. In working with health care and mental health professionals, he explores the relationship between humor and therapy using his unique blend of knowledge, showmanship and “hands on” teaching techniques. Dr. Adams says, “I interpret my experience in life as being happy. I want, as a doctor, to say it does matter to your health to be happy. It may be the most important health factor in your life.”Patch Adams, M.D., is a nationally known speaker on wellness, laughter, and humor as well as on health care and health care systems. He approaches the issues of personal, community, and global health with “zestful exuberance,” according to Time Magazine. Dr. Adams believes that “the most revolutionary act one can commit in our world is to be happy.” He was the subject of the 1998 biopic, Patch Adams, starring Robin Williams. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History and Visiting Research Scientist and Lecturer at Princeton University. Born and raised in New York City, he realized he wanted to study space science when he was young, looking through a pair of binoculars at the moon. Visiting the Old Hayden Planetarium at the age of nine, he was first introduced to the stars. However, in Neil’s neighborhood, “being smart is not on the list of things that gets you respect,” he recalls. African-American boys were expected to be athletes, not scholars. At thirteen, he attended summer astronomy camp in the Mohave Desert. There, he could see millions of stars in the clear desert sky. Neil deGrasse Tyson was educated in the public school system and attended the Bronx High School of Science. After graduation, he went on to earn his BA in Physics from Harvard, where he also rowed on the crew team and joined the wrestling team. After earning a Master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, he went home to New York to do his doctoral work at Columbia and earn his PhD in Astrophysics from Columbia University. After earning his doctorate, Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson has worked as an astrophysicist and research scientist at Princeton University, as a columnist for Stardate magazine, and, from 1996, as the first occupant of the Frederick P. Rose Directorship of the Hayden Planetarium in New York City (the youngest director in the long history of the planetarium). His association with Princeton continues, where he is a Visiting Research Scientist in astrophysics and also teaches.Dr. Tyson published the first of six books on astronomy and astrophysics in 1988. His research interests include star formation, exploding stars, dwarf galaxies, and the structure of our Milky Way. To conduct his research, he uses telescopes all over the world as well as the Hubble Space Telescope. He has also continued to write prolifically for the public, including a series of essays in Natural History magazine as well as the books One Universe: At Home in the Cosmos (coauthored with Charles Liu and Robert Irion) and a Q&A book on the universe for all ages titled Just Visiting This Planet. One Universe: At Home in the Cosmos was the winner of the 2001 American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award to a Scientist. His most recent book was a memoir, The Sky is Not the Limit: Adventures of an Urban Astrophysicist. In 2001, He was appointed by President Bush to serve on a 12-member commission that studied the Future of the US Aerospace Industry. In 2004, Dr. Tyson was once again appointed by President Bush to serve on a 9-member commission on the Implementation of the United States Space Exploration Policy, dubbed the Moon, Mars, and Beyond commission. Recommendations from this group formed the foundation for President Bush’s new space vision.Dr. Tysons contributions to the public appreciation of the cosmos were recently recognized by the International Astronomical Union in their official naming of asteroid 13123 Tyson.Dr. Tyson has been a frequent guest on The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and Real Time with Bill Maher. Since 2009, he has hosted the weekly radio show StarTalk. In 2014, Tyson began hosting FOX’s minseries Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, an update to Carl Sagan’s Cosmos: A Personal Voyage (1980) television series. That was all it took to spark his curiosity and desire to know everything about the laws that govern the universe, leading him to return to school, earn a PhD, and by 35, he was an engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratories. For 10 years, Steltzner led a team of engineers inventing, designing, testing and retesting the revolutionary “sky crane” landing system that successfully placed the Mars rover, Curiosity on the Martian surface in 2012. Five times heavier than its predecessors, Curiosity required an entirely new landing system for the perilous 7-minute phase when the one-ton rover—entering Martian atmosphere at 13,000 mph—must stop fully on the surface. Since then, he’s been awarded honors ranging from the Smithsonian’s American Ingenuity Award in technology, to GQ magazine’s Spaceman of the Year. With a unique, exciting and inspiring narrative, Steltzner discusses the power of human curiosity, the importance of fostering a culture of collaborative innovation and proves that with the “Right Kind of Crazy,” we can significantly expand boundaries and achieve the impossible. His insight and journey are captured in his book, The Right Kind of Crazy: A True Story of Teamwork, Leadership and High Stakes Innovation, released in 2016.

Where does motivation come from? What does it feed on? Where does it hide when you can’t find it? What importance does it have for you?

We all need someone to keep us company sometimes, and sometimes we all need someone to motivate us. Whether they offer new insights, stirring words, or a way to reframe our trials and challenges, an inspiring speaker can be the difference between success and failure.

There are many psychological theories about human motivation, and many practical approaches to developing it. You can learn about all of them from Aurum Bureau’s hand-picked speakers. Give yourself the chance to learn from their focus, from their experience, and even from the mistakes they’ve made. Bring one to your next event.

Their stories are extraordinary. You can hear from Carles Puyol, legendary captain of FC Barcelona, who kept his team motivated and operating at its peak despite an entire year without a single victory on the field. The next year, they came back to win every possible title. Or you might bring on José Hernández, the former NASA astronaut, to tell you how a migrant day worker managed to reach the stars. Or Chris Gardner, who inspired the film The Pursuit of Happiness with his story of perseverance and struggle as he transformed himself from tramp to millionaire.

All of the speakers in our portfolio will give you fresh understanding of the workings of human motivation, and all of them will leave you inspired. Browse the selection or reach out to us for a recommendation based on your unique circumstances and the needs of your event.

Everything is ready. The audience is waiting!
